As part of The Founder’s Week Vivek High School, Chandigarh, showcased this year’s musical production ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ on 2nd November 2023 by students of Grades 10 &11. It was conceptualised by ‘The Engine Room’. Around 50 students participated as lead performers, supporting cast and troupe of dancers.
‘Bend it Like Beckham’ is an adapted and a devised musical, centred around an Indian immigrant family in the UK, their challenges, belongingness, adapting to a new culture, and a young Indian girl’s pursuit of a football career.
The performance was woven together with movement, recorded text, physical theatre and an experimental stage and light design. As the music reached a crescendo and the narrative unfolded into a high-energy tale filled with surprising developments, ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ truly enthralled and captivated the audience.
This rendition has been chosen for Digital assessment for Trinity, Grade 8, under Performance Arts in Production.
