On 16th May 2023, the French department organised the first event after the pandemic in the honour of the Fete de la Francophonie. The annual Francophonie Cultural Festival spotlights the music, art, literature, film, cuisine, and customs of French-speaking countries and regions from across the globe. March marks an annual international celebration of the French-speaking world. While the official Journée international de la Francophonie is March 20th, we celebrated it on 16th may while also collaborating with other popularly celebrated festivals in France such as fete de la musique et fete du père. The aim of this event was to encourage our young French speakers to learn more of the French culture as well as improve their speaking skills by giving them a chance to showcase their talents on stage. Two chief guests also graced us with their presence that day –
1) Madame Opehlie, the director of Alliance Française
2) Madame Cecilia Antony, the HOD of French department at Punjab University.
It was an honour to be able to see this event, it was filled with some amazing performances of dance and singing. We also had some adorable children come up on stage dressed as French personalities to take part in our very own Vivek fashion Week.
